You do not want to try to fix the imagesproblem yourself because if you make it worse then it could put you in danger. They will probably let you return the car and get you a new one if something happens. Captain’s Log

I was looking for the Las Vegas airport recently. Does it go by a different name?

You have experienced a common problem in the airport world. The official names of airports aren’t always obvious or well known. We have accounted for this in our app by providing search capability at the top of the screen in the airport list. You can search by airport name, city name, or three letter airport ID. The Las Vegas airport is actually officially named the McCarran International airport (listed under M in the alphabetical list). You could also search by using the word Vegas or Las Vegas. Searching for LAS (the official three letter identifier for this airport) would locate the airport also. Hope this helps.

What is the biggest airline in the world?

After merging with Continental Airlines, United Airlines is now the largest airline in the world.

Why do I have to turn off my cell phone in-flight?

Because the Flight Attendant says so!  Only kidding. (well maybe only half kidding)

The FAA is playing it safe.  Their position is that determining the effect of a hundred brands of cell phones operating at one time is impossible to test and certify as having no effect on the plane’s systems. Therefore, this rule is in the category of “better safe than sorry”.

Hey McCarran, Is There Such a Thing as ‘New Terminal Scent’?

Vegas Baby!

Big news, travelers. The McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas has opened their brand new Terminal 3!  Alaska, Frontier, JetBlue, Sun Country and Virgin America are all scheduled to move in tomorow, July 31st, 2012.  If you are flying on one of these airlines into or out of Vegas on Tuesday, be aware of this change and get excited!  It’s not often that you get to fly into a brand new terminal.

We at Airport Life have been following the journey of this new terminal for quite some time. Over the past few months, we have researched for updates on the construction, photos, even the promotional races and activities leading up to opening day and all sources seem to be unanimous: this is a very impressive expansion.

Please send us personal reactions and photos from your travels into and out of this new terminal.   We can’t wait to see it in person!

Congratulations, McCarran!

A Word From the Road

Good evening travelers,

Captain Dan here.  I just landed at the Denver Airport and am headed to my layover.  It looks like there is a lot of road construction on the roads around the terminal building so I wanted to send a quick update.

If you know someone driving to the airport to drop off or pickup a passenger in this area, be sure to plan on adding some extra time.  Already have Airport Life? For assistance, tap the “Airport Site” button on the Denver Airport page in the Airport Life app.  This will take you directly to the official airport website to see details on the construction.  We are here to make your air travel easier from news to app features to answering your questions.  Have a great night, travelers.

Over and out!

A Report from TechStars

Captain Dan with David Cohen after a Patriot Boot Camp event

Good afternoon, Travelers!

As many of you know, this week Captain Dan was at the TechStars event, Patriot Boot Camp. Yesterday, I received this note from the Captain about his experience there and wanted to share it with you!

It is the last day of my participation in the program put on by TechStars for military veteran entrepreneurs. Wow! This has been one of the best opportunities my business, Airport Life, has had. The mentoring, advice, connections, and interaction with other veterans doing what I am doing has been absolutely invaluable! I am more excited about the future of Airport Life than ever. Captain Dan saying, that’s all for now, over and out!

What is the outside air temperature at cruise altitude?

It is an incredibly cold -30 to -65 degrees Fahrenheit! Cool trivia (no pun intended): The only temperature where the Fahrenheit and Celsius readings are exactly the same is -40 degrees.

What causes in-flight turbulence?

The effect of Turbulence can be described as similar to the effect that rocks in a stream have on the water flowing over them.  Air can be thought of as really, really thin water in how it behaves. When air is flowing past mountains, thunderstorms, and other objects, it swirls. Thus turbulence during your flight. There are other causes of turbulence as well, but more on that later.
